  • How does your pricing work?
I have a gender and age neutral pricelist. This mean that each person books a specific amount of time with me. I charge based on time needed for the service, amount of product required and extra training for advanced colour techniques.
  • Do you work with all hair types?
Yes. I work with all hair types and curl patterns.
  • Do I need to leave a deposit?
Yes. £10 for cut and blow-dry’s, £40 for colour appointments. This can come off your total bill on the day, or if you are wanting to rebook future appointments it can be held on your account.
  • What’s the cancellation policy?
Time booked for a client is reserved for the client’s exclusive use. When appointments are missed or cancelled without sufficient notice, Mary is unable to fill the vacancy. Therefore, I request as much notice as possible when cancelling or rearranging appointments. Cancel with less than 48hrs notice of your appointment you will lose your deposit. Cancel 24hrs prior requires 50% of your booked service. Cancel on the day or by not turning up to your appointment, failing to contact me prior results in 100% payment of the booked service.
  • Do I need a skin test?
Yes. If you’re looking to have a colour service with me, you need to have a skin test 48hrs prior to the colour service. Everyone is susceptible to an allergic reaction even if you’ve never experience 1 before. It only takes 1 ingredient your skins not been exposed to for this to happen. Reactions can be more likely if a tattoo has recently been done, if you are pregnant, going through hormonal changes or recently been ill (such as covid).
  • What’s a strand test?
A strand test is simply taking a small sample of your hair to test with the required colour to see how your hair will respond. This is usually done prior to a lightening services to make sure the hair integrity is strong enough to withstand the process. This is vital if you are someone who has been doing home hair dyes. Some box dyes have metallic salts in them which are extremely harmful to the hair but you're unaware of the until a lightning process is done and the outcome is catastrophic.
  • Should I wash my hair before having a colour done?
'2nd day hair' is typically the best state for hair colouring. If your hair is freshly washed the scalp can feel too exposed to the hair colour a tingle more than usual. If you’ve left your hair all week there can be too much oil and product build up on your hair leading to uneven colour results. Again this is just a recommendation as everyone’s hair produces oils at different rates.
  • Can I have a colour if I’ve got a sensitive scalp?
Yes. As long as you’ve had your patch test done and that shows no reaction you are fine to go ahead with colour. There are things I would personally do to make the service more comfortable such as using a scalp lotion prior to colour application and using a calming sensitive shampoo post colour. If you have a reaction to your patch test you still have options. Foil or freehand application's are techniques used where the colour does not touch your scalp. Wella also have a variety of colour masks which are suitable for all skin/hair types that will not cause a reaction.
  • Does your hair change during and after pregnancy?
Yes. During your pregnancy your hair will increase in thickness, look extra healthy and glossy, it can even change colour typically going darker. After giving birth, if you breast feed this will extent the time of increased hair density. However when you stop, this is the time when your hair will begin to shed. You will naturally lose all of hair that your scalp held on to during pregnancy. This is not a fun stage for any woman! I highly recommend taking hair supplements such as Glowwa Hair Food and using the Nioxin 3part system kit which includes a shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment. I’ve seen the results first hand between women who choose not to do this and women that do.
  • Can I have my hair colour whilst pregnant?
Yes. I’d recommend waiting until after the first trimester, then having a new skin test. Due to the hormonal changes your body is going through that can prompt allergic reactions.
